The Alfa Romeo new Giulia sedan is now available in Australia. Featuring high-strength composite materials and advanced engine technology, this powerful sports sedan is designed to perform.
Entry level is the 2.0-litre Giulia petrol with 147kW and 330Nm, followed by a mid-spec Super version with the same drivetrain. Next up is a 2.2-litre diesel with 132kW and 450Nm in Super trim, followed by the top-of-the-range Quadrifoglio, which uses a 375kW/600Nm 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine delivering 375kW at 6500 rpm and 600Nm between 2500 and 5000 rpm.
Australian cars have an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. Much of the investment in the new Giulia has been spent on engineering, specifically handling and ride, two key objectives for the new model, along with styling and the latest technology.
According to Alfa Romeo, its engine, with cylinder deactivation technology that can shut off three cylinders when cruising, is more frugal than the AMG and BMW pair with an 8.2L/100km consumption claim 0.1L/100km thriftier. Alfa further claims that its rear-driver is the first in its segment with active aerodynamics thanks to a front splitter that automatically lowers at speed to reduce drag.
The entire Giulia range features a brand new longitudinal-engine, rear-wheel drive platform developed specifically for Alfa Romeo known as ‘Giorgio’, with an even 50 per cent front and 50 per cent rear weight distribution.
With the Alfa™ Active Suspension system, which adjusts the suspension response depending on the driving mode and road conditions, road grip and performance are optimized even in the most challenging conditions, suspension is independent all-round, boasting a double wishbone set-up at the front and multilink at the rear. With a carbon-fibre drive shaft as well as a lightweight aluminium suspension, it light, providing also for improved steering accuracy and feel.
Carbon-ceramic brakes and Sparco racing buckets are optional, but standard equipment for the Australian market includes 19-inch alloy wheels, swivelling bi-xenons with auto high-beam, leather/Alcantara sports seats with full electric adjustment, dual-zone climate control and 8.8-inch colour screen with nav and 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio.
The Giulia is fitted with a standard rear-mounted back-up camera and parking sensors for enhanced visibility when parking or reversing. An electromechanical braking system reduces braking distances and optimises brake pedal pressure. Available Forward Collision Warning Plus will detect you’re your vehicle is approaching another vehicle too quickly, and will provide audible and visual warnings as well as applying the brakes if needed.
